Mental Health Conference
August 30-31, 2019

HIM’s 2nd Annual Mental Health Conference offering help, hope and healing. The conference features 4 general sessions and 7 elective seminars for equipping, encouraging and rebuilding families, churches and communities scattered by mental health challenges.

Keynote Speakers Dan Morehead and Matt Stanford will be joined by other counselors speaking about anxiety, depression, addiction, suicide and how to identify and respond to mental health issues in our communities.

 

Featured Speakers

DR. DAN MOREHEAD
Daniel Morehead, who was a keynote speaker at HIM's 2018 Mental Conference, is a psychiatrist in clinical practice in Austin, Texas, and Boston Massachusetts. He speaks regularly for mental health advocacy, and teaches psychiatry at Tufts University Medical Center. For 18 years, he served as supervising psychiatrist at the Samaritan Center for Pastoral Counseling. He is also former Assistant Residency Director at the Menninger Clinic, where he received the William C. Menninger Teaching Award. He is board certified in General Psychiatry and Neuropsychiatry, and maintains interests in brain science, psychotherapy and spirituality. In his leisure time, he is a student of kung fu, and has managed to attain black belt level without seriously injuring himself. He and his wife Carol are parents of three sons, and Carol serves as priest and rector of Grace Episcopal Church, Medford Massachusetts.

DR. MATT STANFORD
Matthew S. Stanford (Ph.D., Baylor University) is CEO of the Hope and Healing Center & Institute in Houston, TX and adjunct professor of psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine and the Houston Methodist Hospital Institute for Academic Medicine. A fellow of the Association for Psychological Science he is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles in psychology, psychiatry, and neuroscience. His research on the interplay between psychology and issues of faith has been featured in such national publications as The New York Times, USA Today, and Christianity Today, as well as many news websites including Fox, MSNBC, Yahoo, and US News & World Report. Dr. Stanford is the author of two books, Grace for the Afflicted: A Clinical and Biblical Perspective on Mental Illness, Revised and Expanded (InterVarsity Press, 2017) and The Biology of Sin: Grace Hope and Healing for Those Who Feel Trapped (InterVarsity Press, 2011).
